Camp Walk

About 4 weeks ago we were at camp. I chose to write about the beautiful bush walk that I did. I chose this activity because it was one of my favourites out of all of them.

Beautiful Bush Walk

There I was, preparing for the worst and coldest sleep of my life. “Well I think I have everything I need for this windy tramp.” Mr Bennet and the rest of the group meet outside my cabin. My mum came with us too. We set off into the misty breeze at about 7:00. First we went up the side of the road for around 5 minutes. We went past containers and barking dogs. When we got to the end of the road, we went through some long wet grass. After that we walked up a paddock, and on the left  there was a disgusting bath with red and brown liquid in it. But it wasn't blood. Mr Bennett made lots of funny jokes about us having a bath in that grose bath to keep clean. Once we got to the top of the first section of the padic, Mr Bennet made a silly joke. It was dark and Mr Bennett said “Now I just want to warn you guys about the headless sheep.” “No I’m kidding.”  We started walking again and we couldn't believe our eyes. There was a down hill. YAY! But when there’s a down there’s always an up. There was a huge hill with a tall tree on top. We climbed and climbed and climbed. Finally we got to the top and we saw a grey container that was about 4 meters long and 3 meters tall. Mr Bennett told us that, that one wasn't going to be the one that we slept in because it was too small for all of us too fit in. So we kept on walking. When we went down the huge hill, we saw the woods. It had tall pine trees waving gracefully in the wind. We entered and we saw 1 little hut. It was like a wooden balcony on top of another wooden balcony. That was the boys one. The girls went down a bit further and we saw a bigger one and it didn’t have sheep poo all over the bottom level. I was really tired so I set up strait away. Mum set up next  to me. The boys came down to our hut and we told stories, ate biscuits and Mr Bennett took some photos. After about 20 minutes the boys went back to their hut and went to sleep. The girls upstairs kept chatting, but eventually they went to sleep. When I looked up I saw spiders staring at me. There were creepy crawlies everywhere. I went to sleep quickly though. In the morning mum said that around 4am a possum came and ate all the crumbs from the biscuits. My back hurt, because of that wooden floor. We packed up quickly and meet with the boys. We went up the big hill, through the paddocks, past the bath, along the tall grass and down the road. We ended up back at camp, where we had breakfast and packed our bags.

My Speech

This term I have been writing a speech for school. I have been working on it a lot, to make it as great as it can be. I wrote my speech on Dangerous Intersections, because every day I go through an extremely dangerous intersection and it isn't safe. I hope you like it. WARNING, this speech is very long.

Here is my writing:
DANGEROUS INTERSECTIONS
1.
Have you ever had to sit waiting in traffic at an intersection for 7 minutes straight, just sitting there? I have, and I am telling you, it is not fun! It can make you really late to school or work. When people have to wait a long time in traffic, they often take bad risks. Also, pedestrians who get stuck at intersections without traffic lights can make bad decisions about crossing.
So before you do experience a long wait and take a bad risk, let’s improve these intersections. Let’s make them more safe. I will tell you how because I have some terrifying facts driving your way!

2.
Firstly, I want to explain how Crossed Yellow Lines effect some intersections like the one near Owairaka Ave on Mt Albert Road. Crossed Yellow Lines are like traffic lights or stop signs on the road, so if you drive over them when the
traffic is supposed to stop, it is like driving through a red light. Each day I see at least 10 cars drive over Crossed Yellow Lines at this one intersection, over only 3 minutes! These drivers should stop before the Crossed Yellow Lines, to let cars merge. But these days some people are being inconsiderate and driving illegally.

3.
Secondly, you could be active and do something to change the intersection problems. I am just one person. I’m like a tiny ant. But if we all work together, we could be like a giant and make change happen. Time is running out because there is a crash waiting to happen and if we don’t stop it who will? My family wrote a letter to Auckland Transport about the intersection problems I mentioned. But we didn’t get a proper reply and the intersection is still unsafe.
Just imagine, what it would be like if you were in a crash at an intersection. You might get injured very badly or even die.
Please realize how dangerous some intersections can be, especially those without traffic lights.
You can’t ignore intersections in a car, or on foot or you could be in a wheelchair for the rest of your life! Life is important, so look after it.

4.
Did you know that during the last five years in town areas, 46% of deaths and serious injuries happened at intersections! That has gone way too far over the line! Even if everyone obeyed all the road rules, there would still be around 200 road deaths each year. Intersections are not friendly, don’t let them trick you!

5.
Lastly here are some solutions to all these problems.
We could show the roads people how dangerous some intersections are. We kids could ask for more traffic lights to help all cars and people go through intersections safely and fairly.
We could build a bridge over the top of the dangerous roads, so the other roads can still go past. That can happen.
We could even fundraise to buy some land to change the layout of the most dangerous intersections.
We could group together to talk to the Prime Minister and explain that lots of lives are being affected, so that he will want to give money to road projects.
6.
To conclude, I believe that together we can all make a difference. We could save some lives, so come and join me because you are old enough to know what the right thing to do is. Let’s improve these Dangerous Intersections.
I am ready to do something and I hope you are too. I challenge you to join me and make our intersections safe.

Thank-You for listening.

100 word challenge.

This is my 100 word challenge. A 100 word challenge is where you write a story about a picture. You also have to have 100 words, no more, no less.

This is the writing:

Why am I in here. I must have been knocked out. I Think I… oohhhhh now I remember. I wish I never did that but at least on the bright side I am Alive + I am all over the news and that means I am famous! YYYAAAAAAYYYYYY!! But that is the only good thing. The prison guards also watch me poop and that is uncomfortable. Wow well I suck at being liked. I Feel sad and alone. It smells horrible. It is kind of scary too. I regret what I did. I feel squished and spied on. This is torture.

Chapter Chat

This term we have been taking part in something called Chapter Chat. Chapter Chat is where each week we read a few chapters of a book then do an activity based on it. At the end of the week we share what we have made on with other schools on twitter. This is what I made. It is called Wizz Away Ointment.
